Hi, my name is Laurie. I am not a designer, I am not a decorator, I am not an expert in any field, but I do believe that every one can and should have spaces that are soothing and beautiful to them.
I grew up in a family with a dad who is a dreamer and a mom who is frugal. I am a happy combination of the two.
My father has taught me a few key lessons. One, is imperfection is often more beautiful and real than perfection. And, two, it is OK to think outside the box. Don’t let anyone tell you you shouldn’t or can’t do that.
From my mother, I have learned to use what I have first. And if you need to buy, don’t ever pay full price. There is a lot to be found on clearance.
By combining these lessons I have found that having some restrictions have allowed my creativity to flower, maybe even more than if I was able to buy whatever I desired.
My first real job, at 16, was working at Sears in the window shop, selling curtains and drapes. With my first paychecks, I bought paint and bedding to dress my room.
From that point on I was hooked.
Over the years, I have always fussed and tweaked my spaces, to make what ever I had look its best. And over the years, I have found that it is something that everyone can do. A lot of money is not necessary, just a little imagination.
